CHARACTER

Name: Amaterasu
Canon: Ōkami
Gender: Female
Age: N/A
Wing Color: White, with some curly feathers, the longest feathers ending in red (akin to Moegami's wings)

Canon Point: After the events of Ōkami (just before Ōkamiden)
Canon Point Explanation: Taking Ammy from after her storyline, at full character development... but because she doesn't play any role in Ōkamiden, there's no point in including any potential knowledge she'd have for Ōkamiden
History: Wikipedia

Personality: Amaterasu is quite good at snooping about and exploring, able to wander around through mazes and puzzles and solve them quite decently. She has excellent access to her array of powers, using them to find her way through castles, city streets, and forests alike. She’s very skilled at finding hidden items, and has a lot of investigative skill in general. However, her snooping prowess doesn’t transfer entirely into actual intelligence or wisdom. Amaterasu is very naïve, and doesn’t think to be suspicious, often walking straight into traps. She also tends to stare, quite wall-eyed, at people if her interest is lost. She relies on Issun to make up for her lack of smarts, and it’s not at all uncommon for him to give her a piece of his mind whenever she goes off to do something particularly goofy or nonsensical.

Amaterasu also doesn’t take the time to stop and think. She is certainly capable of understanding what everyone is saying, despite not being able to speak a word herself, but that doesn’t translate to being able to make the best decisions. “Leap before you look” is the motto given to her by Issun, so the goddess acts on gut instinct and impulse before ever giving thought to consequences. Fortunately for her, it only rarely backfires; Amaterasu has a good gut feeling and her impulses almost entirely empirically lead her towards doing the right moral thing. In fact, pursuing her gut instinct is the most certain thought process Amaterasu has. She meanders and daydreams up until she has evil to fight or someone to rescue or help, which derails any dilly-dallying she has going on in favor of good divine intervention. Amaterasu isn’t especially contemplative, because she is less like a human and more like a force for good. Though Amaterasu is incredibly sympathetic towards the plight of humans, working thoroughly and often to protect and promote them, she still isn’t one and she doesn’t think the way they do. And what Amaterasu knows, compared to other humans (and even the player) is mysterious, further cloaking the exact way in which she thinks. While it’s not clear if she recalls anything from her previous life, if she’s working on a blank slate, or if the memories of the past are gradually working their way back into her mind as she regains her godly powers, Amaterasu is still quick to learn from her most recent experiences. (As a player myself, I will be playing Amaterasu as though she is slowly regaining memories from past lives now that she’s growing more powerful and has more faith being fed into her.)

Amaterasu is an extremely friendly wolf, and loves to be around people and spirits alike. She is remarkably helpful, and enjoys making people happy, going to great lengths to accomplish just that. Though she gets excitable, she usually doesn’t jump on people or lick them to death... though she may bite their sleeves and drag them around, or toss them onto her back for a ride. She loves to play and get into mischief, breaking things with her Celestial Brush for fun or digging up turnip patches to run around and avoid getting thwacked by angry gardeners. She’ll tackle and harass people, but it is never in ill will and is only in purely impish fun. She has very humanly expressive body language, reacting to things with clear whines and droopy ears, using her face more than her tail and posture. She even has a strangely human-like sense of humor, a lot of the time. She likes to cover people in ink, or put a goofy mask on her face. She likes to snatch things from people and make them chase her around, and she likes to befuddle them with the Celestial Brush. She takes such delight in playing with people, whether it’s harassing them or they’re along for the ride. Amaterasu is incredibly happy-go-lucky, with various amounts of a mischievous streak at any given time.

Amaterasu has no fear of new situations, often meeting them with abundant curiosity or fascination for the mystery. When something strange arises, Amaterasu is quick to wander around and find its source, even when such exploration is at a detriment to her; for example, she had little hesitation in wandering around in Kusa Village when it had an evil settled over it that sapped away all of her Ink from her Ink Pots, leaving her without her divine powers. Even still, she kept wandering through the village until she found the source of the problem and fought, tooth-and-claw, to safe Princess Fuse. When met with a challenge, she prefers to fight rather than to chose “flight”. She relishes a good fight, in fact, licking her paw or otherwise taunting many of her foes just to get a better rise out of them. And when a fight isn’t a matter of fun? It’s a matter of doing what’s right, and it is absolutely easy for the sun goddess to go all-out to fight for what’s right. What Amaterasu does fear, however, is not her own death. It's the suffering of others. Amaterasu can easily avoid getting into serious confrontation and can recover herself, but a loss of life or quality of life for humanity is a loss for Amaterasu, and is not to be taken lightly. These fears may make her slow for a moment, and when they are realized she will mourn briefly, but she will forge on to do what’s right regardless of how afraid she is and despite how afraid any of her friends are for her life.

In the end, Amaterasu’s moments of doubt or worry are always significantly outshone by her endless dedication and resolve. As the mother of all life and the origin of all creation, Amaterasu’s most core desire is to breathe life into Nippon and to lift the curse of evil that rests heavily upon it. She is a force of creation and a god of life, and she will use the powers she holds to overpower evil and repair all of the damage that it does. Amaterasu’s perception of “good” and “evil” are a bit skewed when compared to modern human morality. Good and Evil are two incredibly blatant, tangible things: evil is darkness, pollution, and corruption that sits heavily on the earth. It turns people into stone, or it possesses them. Amaterasu’s powers work clearly much better on evil than on good, natural things. And so when she encounters someone like the Master of Thieves Hayou, or hears of the misdeeds of Oki (who stole a sacred sword for selfish(-ish) reasons) or Susano (who unleashed evil and tried to run away from responsibility for it)... she is very quick to forgive. Though she may not fully recognize that there are inherent problems in trusting anyone that isn’t a demon, this doesn’t mean that she is quick to slaughter every demon in her path. There are quite a few times where she will let an imp or simple demon slide, or regard them as an honorable foe. After all, there is good to be found in all places, even in the twisted culture of evil beings. Even if she is quite poor at finding the bad in those who are inherently well-intentioned (or even simply harmless).

Strengths
Physical: Ammy is extremely nimble, swift, and strong. Though she has weapons she favors, when her Ink Pots run dry she must run on tooth and claw - and she is quite ferocious fighting in that way, as well. When she runs or leaps, the winds themselves favor her, allowing her to touch off the air for a second jump or to run at impressive speeds. She is so charged with divine power that in her path grows a trail of flowers and from her double-jump sprays a shower of leaves. Ammy is hardy, good at taking a few solid hits and not losing any momentum until she gets extremely close to death.
Mental: Ammy's ability to solve puzzles is prominent, as she's usually able to wander around and get around obstacles or traps. Hand-in-hand with her resolve and determination, there's not much any good or evildoer can do to keep Ammy away from what she's interested in.
Emotional: Amaterasu has a lot of emotional strength and resolve. She will handle fighting for what's right, and will face death and the uncertain for the sake of doing what's best for Nippon. She's also very emotionally stable, with a good sense of humor and a calm. She's courageous and full of life, and she's supportive as she can be.

Weaknesses
Physical: Ammy is a physical god. Which means, while this trait is normal for most mortal things, one of her "weaknesses" is to be subject to physical damage. She can gain injuries in battle, even if she recovers by absorbing solar power and faith. And she absolutely can die.
Mental: Aside from getting into mischief, Ammy isn't the sharpest tack in the box. She needs a fair amount of help from Issun (or is lazy to the point of just preferring his assistance) to decipher a bigger picture. She's also extremely prone to a wandering mind, getting distracted very easily and drifting off.
Emotional: She's remarkably lazy, to pair off with her in-the-clouds mentality, and only when she's buckled down in determination can she really get through her happy-go-lucky nature, which often times is to a fault (or simply not helping at all). She doesn't always act sympathetic, particularly if she finds people whining about things they can well fix themselves... though she will certainly give them a solid headbutt to get them in gear. When Ammy does worry for someone, however, she can often go to great extents to help them regardless of the time and effort it takes of her.

Powers: Amaterasu has a fairly wide range of supernatural powers as a god (hence a whole section about them so that they're not a muddled mess in the other categories). The first and foremost being the collection of Celestial Brush powers. In Amaterasu's mind eye, she "opens" the canvas of reality, and paints upon it to alter the world in powerful ways, smiting evil or breathing life into nature. They are as listed (with their limitations in Luceti included):

1. Sunrise: As the sun goddess, Amaterasu has the power to raise the sun or to intensify its light. [In Luceti: She cannot raise the sun or change its course, but she can intensify the light for a short moment.]
2. Rejuvenation: Obtained from the dragon Yomigami, Amaterasu has the power to repair or restore objects, or to simply replace them; for example, fixing a broken water mill or replacing a missing laundry pole. [In Luceti: Same effect but a much more limited use]
3. Power Slash: Obtained from the rat Tachigami, Amaterasu has the power to slice through foe and obstacle alike. [In Luceti: Though it can slice through boulders and other non-living structures in a concentrated blow, it is blunt force when dealt to living things.]
4. Greensprout: Obtained from the monkey Hanagami trio, Amaterasu has several nature-themed powers. Bloom allows Ammy to circle a tree and thus have it blossom, trace ink on the ground to grow flowers, or place a single dot to spontaneously sprout a whole new tree. Water Lily creates lily pads large enough to support Ammy's weight in water. Vine allows Ammy to draw a line between certain special flowers and herself, and the flowers extend a vine to her and pull her upwards. [In Luceti: There are none of the flowers needed for Vine, and Water Lily is benign enough; like in the games, only three lilies exist at one point as she crosses any body of water. Amaterasu still has the power to make trees and flowers bloom at will, but planting a tree that will appear immediately only works a couple times a day.]
5. Cherry Bomb: Obtained from the boar Bakugami, Amaterasu has the power to draw into existence firecracker-like bombs that blast open walls and severely damage foes. [In Luceti: Limit to a bomb a day, the rest of the time it's simple firecrackers.]
6. Waterspout: Obtained from the snake Nuregami, Amaterasu has the power to control water's movement, drawing from a pool of water to douse flames or fill containers, or even creating a spout of water that shoots upwards and holds Ammy's weight. With Whirlpool, she can create a warp point between special pools. With Deluge, Ammy calls down an intense rainstorm that lasts for only a few seconds, but deals damage to evil and slows opponents. [In Luceti: There are no whirlpools to warp between, and no spouts of water to shoot upwards. Deluge is a limited use attack, at nearly full power but only expendable once.]
7. Crescent: Obtained from the rabbit Yumigami, Amaterasu has the power to set the sun and draw out the moon. [In Luceti: Not possible in the slightest, but she can increase the light the moon gives off.]
8. Galestorm: Obtained from the horse Kazegami, Amaterasu has the power to create powerful gusts of wind in many different directions. She also has the power to create a Whirlwind around her, which tosses her opponents into the air and deals damage to them. [In Luceti: When she uses Whirlwind, she must remain stationary, and is no longer able to take the center of the storm with her. It is limited use.]
9. Inferno: Obtained from the rooster Moegami, Amaterasu has the power to manipulate fire or to create a blazing Inferno. [In Luceti: Inferno uses up all of her Ink Pots, forcing her to fight tooth and claw until it recharges. The manipulation of fire requires an open flame and will not ignite things as well as in the games (more likely to singe hair than set a person completely on fire).]
10. Veil of Mist: Obtained from the sheep Kasugami, Amaterasu has the power to "intoxicate" reality and slow everything down for four seconds. [In Luceti: Can't slow time, but can certainly give off a rush of intoxication to her foes for four seconds.]
11. Catwalk: Obtained from the cat Kabegami, Amaterasu has the power to draw from Kabegami's statues up a wall, thus making it sticky and easy to climb. [In Luceti: There are no Kabegami statues. Were one built in Kabegami's likeness, she would have access to it, but such statues are heavy and stationary.]
12. Thunderstorm: Obtained from the tiger Gekigami, Amaterasu has the power to manipulate electricity, or to call down a mighty Thunderbolt. [In Luceti: Thunderbolt uses up all of her Ink Pots, forcing her to fight tooth and claw until it recharges. The manipulation of electricity requires an open, sparking electrical source and will give most things just a simple jolt, only really harmful to people who might have pacemakers.]
13. Blizzard: Obtained from the ox Itegami, Amaterasu has the power to manipulate freezing ice, or to rain down ice shards in a ferocious Icestorm. [In Luceti: Icestorm uses up all of her Ink Pots, forcing her to fight tooth and claw until it recharges. The manipulation of ice requires a single piece of ice, and freezes or frosts its target depending on the size and heat of the object (a person or hot machine is only going to get a bit frosty, a rock will get encased in ice)]

The source of her Celestial Brush Powers is her collection of Ink Pots. This is the ink that manipulates the very fabric of the universe, and it's somewhat limited. In Luceti, it's limited even further - where at the end of the game Ammy had a large collection, she will have a very small amount and they will take much longer to refill, thus extremely limiting her ability to use her powers as frequently as she wants. The weakened versions of the Celestial Brush were included in the descriptions of the original powers, thus explaining the limitations.

When her ink runs dry, she even loses access to her other source of power: her collection of weapons. The first type of weapon that Ammy has at her disposal is a "Reflector". A large mirror set inside of a heavy base, often surrounded by divine flames (such as her Solar Flare weapon), it's moderate in many ways - it deals moderate damage, it swings at a moderate speed and pace, and it has the most flexibility in use compared to the other types of weapons. When equipped as a sub weapon, it is an effective shield, when timed correctly. The next type of weapon is a "Rosary", a collection of beads that float around Amaterasu's neck somewhat like a 'collar'. Ammy grabs a bead in her mouth, and uses the rosary as a whip - it strikes rapidly but with weak attacks. When equipped as a sub weapon, they fire as projectiles. The final type of weapon is a "Glaive", which is an older form of sword (pre-katana) that is incredibly heavy. As a result, the heavy blade slows Ammy down, but its strikes are devastating in comparison. When equipped as a sub weapon, Amaterasu can pierce with them instead of slashing, and if she is in mid-jump she rides on them like a surf board to stab them into the enemy. The three weapons she will have with her are the strongest that she collected on her journey: The Solar Flare (which can be used as a source of open fire), The Tundra Beads (which can be used as a source of ice), and The Thunder Edge (which can be used as a source of open electricity). The ability to use the weapons as sources for the Celestial Brush is only available when the cap is lifted on Amaterasu for drafts, missions, and other atypical circumstances.

She also has an item called an Astral Pouch, a stomach-like object that fills when Ammy eats food. When Amaterasu is facing a foe that outmatches her, and would otherwise kill her, the Astral Pouch empties itself and converts that energy to bring Amaterasu back to life. It's the equivalent of a Fairy in a bottle for Link, but Ammy always has the Astral Pouch and can always refill it if she gorges herself.

Anything else?: I know it is hard to have a mute character making journal posts. Especially since it's not even that IC for Ammy to write messages at people. A better example of what a post in the journals would look like is similar to what I did when playing Amaterasu in Vatheon: doodle posts.

First Person: Training Wings Thread

Third Person: It was another new day, in Luceti. Amaterasu woke up as the sun rose, getting up stiffly and stretching as she watched it float up ever so slowly. She shook her fur, waking up more solidly. The sun was very strange in this world, and it simply didn’t feel quite the same... but it was the sun nonetheless. A place without thickened dark shadows, where the sun shines lazily and comfortingly, can’t be quite so bad of a place.

Trotting out into the street, she wandered by those that were waking up and getting an early start to their day. Many gave her strange glances, finding it very strange for a wolf to be wandering the streets. Many more gave her a brief cursory look and assumed she was a dog. Sometimes she was met with tasty treats, which she all too happily gobbled up, or she was chased away from the stands with a broom so that she’d stop drooling all over the food. There were a lot of exciting scents, today. There was the smell of metal being heated and twisted; those that worked in the smithy were getting something done quite early today. The sounds of gossip started to rise up as well, as many residents began discussing anything from relationships to anxieties about their imprisonment in Luceti Village.

They worried and worried, or moped because they felt they should worry more. Others were trying to get along with their lives, trying to take things more easily, but trouble bubbled underneath the surface. Ammy didn’t feel like dealing with the ones that were reveling in the chance to fight, after hearing of an upcoming draft.

It only made sense that people were so stirred and anxious. Amaterasu passed by them all, entering the forest and finding a decent hill to climb up. By then, the sun shone directly over her head and burned its strongest. She felt invigorated. She looked down upon Luceti, taking in the sight as a whole. Amaterasu was ready for the draft, too. She turned her gaze towards the wall, though it was invisible. She sat and waited there, listening as the wildlife approached her and chatted mercilessly at her, giving them food she had brought along with her.

She did not fight one bit when the droids came.
